The disability confident symbol has replaced the ‘two ticks’ symbol.

The Two Tick scheme is a voluntary scheme that promises certain things to disabled employees.

Employers signup to five comments…

  • to interview all disabled applicants who meet the minimum criteria for a job vacancy and to consider them on their abilities
  • to discuss with disabled employees, at any time but at least once a year, what you can both do to make sure they can develop and use their abilities
  • to make every effort when employees become disabled to make sure they stay in employment
  • to take action to ensure that all employees develop the appropriate level of disability awareness needed to make these commitments work
  • to review these commitments every year and assess what has been achieved, plan ways to improve on them and let employees and Jobcentre Plus know about progress and future plans

The scheme is unmanaged and unregulated. What IS need is a rating system that allow for comparison for employees. There is no way to distinguish between to employers who both have the symbol.
There also needs to be a clear complaints procedure for removing the symbol. My employer has constantly broken the 5 commitments of the schema yet JobCenter refuse to take away the symbol.

My employer has Two Tick, it did not stop them ‘forgetting’ reasonable adjustments as set out in Equality Act!

Job Centre Plus manage the Two Tick scheme.

Disability Employment Adviser (DEA) In my experience don’t have clue what they are talking about.
My advice get EVERYTHING in writing and if you can check what you are told with an external source.
